Background

Positive Psychology coaching in the dark consists of Mindfulness, Narrative, and facilitating coaching in the dark. Stories convey different meanings and experiences that trigger our imaginations of creativity. It leads to self-discovery and exploration, increasing our understanding and empathy in our stories. Darkness comes when the client is invited to close or blindfold their eyes. or blind folder. In the dark moment, it increases our senses and attention to what is happening between the coach and the client at the present moment.

Aims

It aims to enhance clients' awareness of their current narrative patterns for new possibilities. The process unlocks the user's power of imagination which helps to co-create individual futures and positive outcomes.

Method

The facilitation begins by getting to know the client, setting the agenda, and listening to the client's story. The client will be briefed and guided on the process before entering the moment of darkness. It is important to seek permission from the client for this experiment to create psychological safety. The food is the client's story, in the metaphor of dishes. The ingredients are the client's resources. Tasting the food arouses the client's savoring and curiosity.

Results

The emotion that arises from the taste of the food empowers the client to design the flavor to their preference by adding new ingredients or removing some elements. There is an actual moment of emotions and awareness in the dark. Both persons will merge into one entity. The sense of belonging to one entity creates a new identity in that present moment.

Conclusion

Re-storying with a new perspective creates a new alignment between one's identity, stories, and behaviors in new ways. It aims to enhance clients' awareness of their current narrative patterns by working with the story that emerges in the sessions for new possibilities. The process unlocks the user's power of imagination which helps to co-create individual futures and positive outcomes.
