FOREST (Fostering Optimal Regulation of Emotion to prevent Secondary Trauma) is built on a community-academic partnership between READI Chicago, which uses an innovative approach to preventing gun violence, and the Positive Psychology and Health Investigators Group at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine. Our aim is to adapt, implement, and manualize the FOREST program of positive emotion regulation skills and build capacity for READI Chicago to sustainably enhance resilience, prevent burnout, and reduce turnover among front-line staff working to prevent firearm injury and mortality. We will share our approach to partnership building and translational research, including key considerations in tailoring and implementing a positive psychological intervention within communities that historically have been excluded from research and other pathways to well-being.
