Inflammation is a term for a family of biological processes essential for health but also implicated in a range of adverse health outcomes. A growing number of studies like MIDUS have made it possible to examine how inflammation is shaped by social and psychological experiences across the lifespan, but MIDUS is unique in its strong emphasis on positive social and psychological functioning. This presentation will introduce the inflammatory data in MIDUS and review some studies that have linked inflammation to psychological well-being, highlighting the potential MIDUS offers for research into complex intersecting influences on biological regulation.
