Background

Let your curiosity bring you to this session to learn about the science of awe and how it has been implemented in an online program accessible for free on mobile devices. During the session you will learn about the evidenced-based resilience practices involved in the program in addition to eliciting awe. The Awe Project has been implemented across the world for thousands of people including in law enforcement and other first responders, government officials, executives, students and many others. Importantly, you will also get to engage in the practices including the videos to experience it first-hand. We all deserve to have positive mental health and the data has shown the positive impact a brief program like the Awe Project can have.

Aims

To explain the science and benefits of experiencing awe and related resiliences practices. Additionally, to explain how a brief intervention like the 5-day Awe Project can support a person's overall wellbeing.

Method

Data was collected from multiple studies of The Awe Project and analyzed utilizing phenomenological methodologies including specifically interpretative phenomenological interpretative analysis. Participants in the program and in the study came from diverse backgrounds including NASA, hostage negotiators, and governmental executive leaders.

Results

The results demonstrated that for many participants, taking part in the program supported their mental health and personal resilience. This included experiencing awe through the videos while also participating in various resilience practices including: cognitive reappraisal (social) connectedness, controlled breathing, gratitude, and optimism.

Conclusion

Based on the data collected and analysis, The Awe Project has been demonstrated to support the personal resilience and wellbeing of participants.
