Effectiveness of Wellness Skills Package on increasing professors' character strengths and psychological well-being (#245)
Background
Recently, wellness interventions have had very effective results on increasing psychological well-being in numerous studies in different parts of the world. However, in Iran, localized wellness interventions have not yet taken place.
Aims
The aim of the present study was to evaluate the effectiveness of wellness training on solidification of character strengths and increasing faculty members' psychological well-being.
Method
This study was performed as experimental research with a quasi-experimental design on faculty members of Iranian universities. The sample size of this study was determined according to the number of groups and the number of variables studied (45 individuals in the experiment group). Participants answered Ryff's Psychological Well-being Scale and Character Strengths Questionnaire (Iranian version) in two rounds including pre-test and post-test.
Results
The results showed that in the experiment group, the scores of well-being components and character strengths raised dramatically. Even the qualitative data collected from the interviews showed that participants experience increased quality of life specially in the area of their relationship with family members, colleagues and students.
Conclusion
Based on this, it can be concluded that the package developed for improving psychological wellness has an effective role in increasing character strengths and psychological well-being.
