Professor Shannon Suldo, Ph.D., is a Professor in the School Psychology Program at the University of South Florida. She is the author of Promoting Student Happiness: Positive Psychology Interventions in Schools, a 2016 Guilford book. Shannon’s research emphasizes the utility of conceptualizing youth mental health in a dual-factor model that considers both psychopathology and well-being, a line of research that demonstrates students’ complete mental health entails positive subjective well-being in tandem with minimal symptoms of psychopathology. Her research also establishes links between positive indicators of student mental health and academic success, which further strengthens the rationale for directing educational resources to monitoring and fostering subjective well-being. Currently, she is refining and evaluating universal and targeted school-based positive psychology interventions intended to promote well-being and reduce psychopathology. Shannon’s research contributions have increased educators’ awareness of the importance of youth and teacher subjective well-being, and made accessible (via the availability of a manualized positive psychology program) evidence-based interventions for increasing subjective well-being. Shannon received her Ph.D. in School Psychology from the University of South Carolina in 2004. She is a Licensed Psychologist in Florida and continues to provide school-based mental health services to youth in the Tampa area.
